Dan Brown's Digital Fortress

I'm sure all Dan Brown's fans have read his "Digital Fortress", and find it crappy compared to "Da Vinci Code" or "Angels & Demons". But for those who manged to finish the book, you must have wondered what the code at the end of the book means. I'm not sure if others are as determined as me to break that code and find out what its about, but I glad to say I've broke it.

As seen on the last page of the book, the code stands in the middle of the last page...

128-10-93-85-10-128-98-112-6-6-25-126-39-1-68-78

at first look, I could tell the numbers were either referring to the chapters of the book or the page number, but what I'm sure is that each number represents an alphabet. Hence my initial guess was the first letter of the first word of every referred chapter. I wrote it on the back of my fullscap pad and this is what it showed...

W-E-C-G-E-W-H-Y-A-A-I-O-R-T-N-U

What the fuck?? That is a load of rubbish.. but it suddenly struck me that at the end of the book, the code that was used to stop the "Digital Fortress" was that of a simpe type of code, the Caesar Box! so i counted the number of letters in the code and it turns out to be 16! A perfect square! just like a Caesar Box! To decipher the message, simply divide the code into four groups of four, and rearrange them vertically like this..

WECG
EWHY
AAIO
RTNU

and this is what it reads...

"WE ARE WATCHING YOU"

Immediately, it send chills down my spine... but I'm glad to break the code, very satisfying when it's finally deciphered. For more of these code breaking games, visit www.danbrown.com, but you must first read the book, else it wouldn't be fun...

I just finished the book a little while ago. I work so much and have such a busy life that I only get to read about 10 pages a day, or so. This morning I was glued to the book and knocked out the final 50 pages without stopping, and then saw this code. I wouldn't consider myself too lazy, but writing or reading code isn't my fortee or I would have finished those last 3 classes in my programming degree and would be in Dallas with my brother making a high 6 figures, instead of opting for a more comfortable MIS degree, laughably (but contently) choosing a career in resort management.

To the point, Bravo Dan Brown. This was my 3rd read of yours (angels & demons, deception point, and now digital fortress) all of which were masterful, until the very last page and this code.
